In the summer of 1967, in the desert town of Rainbow Mountain, Anna Lee and Barry Tallented had a baby girl they named Ora Lee. It is said that Ora Lee came out talking and hasn’t stopped since. She loved to chew anyone’s ear who would listen, and even some who wouldn’t. Anna Lee worked the nearby flower fields, while Barry was out selling Hoover vacuums. Ora Lee was a precocious child and indeed this little wild flower blossomed early. By the time she was 14, she was adept at working the fields with her mother, and even more adept at working the field hands by herself. Those field hands found ways to get Ora Lee to stop talking (for a little while anyway). She would also accompany her father on his sales routes where Ora Lee became an expert on suction, hoses, and attachments. It was on one jaunt that Ora Lee came to meet a man from Colorado City named Warren. Warren was sucked in by the way Ora Lee used the extension wands, and was eager to see what else she could do with the crevice tool. He asked that they come do a demonstration for his friends and neighbors back home. When they arrived to demonstrate the brand new Hoover Shag-Vac with the extra-long hose, Ora Lee discovered Warren had a stable of wives and a herd of children, and nary a carpet in sight! Warren confessed he had asked for the demonstration to get Ora Lee to Colorado City, and then offered to make an honest woman of her. Ora Lee made it quite clear she had no desire to be barefoot, pregnant, and wearing those hideously frumpy and drab clothes. Warren was very insistent and told Barry he would not rest until he delivered Ora Lee from the sin that was sucking away her hope for redemption. Fearing the long reach of Warren and his zealous compatriots, Barry and Anna Lee convinced Ora Lee to move Phoenix, and go into hiding as Val Traxx, suburbanite husband and father of two. For nearly twenty years, Ora Lee pretended to be a straight man but was discreetly continuing to refine her talents, never losing sight of what her father taught her – “Ora Lee, it’s all about suction. With superior suction, the world is yours.” When the news came that Warren had been apprehended and jailed, Ora Lee decided it was high time to empty the bag, dispose of the old life, and put the sunshine back into the Valley of the Sun! Just to be safe, she took her mother’s maiden name, Wunderbar. She also revamped her entire wardrobe to include her favorite colors of sunshine and spring –orange, yellow, pink, and lime green. What she lacks in experience (and height), she makes up in enthusiasm (and fabulous platform heels!) - just ask, she’ll tell you!

Since joining the Grand Canyon Sisters, Ora Lee has been given many nicknames - the Polka Dot Harlot, The Orange Vixen, and the Energizer Bunny...
